We only have one Planet

We only have one Planet

Have you ever wondered what will happen to planet Earth if we continue disregarding her the way we do? Signs are already there that the climate has changed so much. Just think of the past two Decembers.

We have had rain almost daily, stealing our normal Dizemba summer days. Cape Town is currently experiencing heavy rains (with THUNDER!), in December! I lived in Cape Town between 2000 and 2008, thunder was never a Cape Town thing.

Astronomers and scientists have been warning Earthlings about climate change. It seemed like a faraway thing, but we have been living in a different climate for years now. We can’t point out climate change evidence in South Africa without mentioning the April KwaZulu Natal floods that wreaked havoc. It’s sad that it led to the loss of lives and families being displaced from their homes for most to wake up to it finally.

This year we jumped straight from Winter to Summer. Spring never came. Now imagine the temperatures getting so high that we can’t survive. Higher temperatures in SA will lead to droughts, affecting food security. Dry rivers and dams mean we don’t have water to drink and sustain us. Then what?

We Have One Planet

Would you be willing to move to another planet when all of that happens? Do you know enough about the living conditions on other planets? Could you move to Mars? Well, my guest and new friend Thabiso Molemohi applied to Mars. Listen in to find out how that turned out.

Thabiso Molemohi

Thabiso’s passion for astronomy and science comes through in how he articulates himself and the subject. Who knew that meeting him at a hip-hop festival would lead to me learning and re-learning about this here Planet?

This episode is a reminder that we are all Scientists and Environmentalists as we interact with science and nature daily. That we only have one planet. Our actions have a direct impact and it’s time we acted differently, or else we will have no choice but to book that one-way ticket to Mars.

This a thoughtful eye opener. Looking forward to hear more about discoveries of planets challenges and how possible one can consider Mars planet if that will be possible. Keep up the good work.
